Short Game

Nationally renowned golf coaches emphasize the critical role of the short game in determining success. A staggering 65% of all shots during a round occur within 100 yards of the green, and a significant 80% of strokes lost to par originate from this crucial zone. Cal Poly Mustang Golfers already exhibit impressive long-game prowess in driving distance and accuracy. This foundation provides a strong platform for further improvement. To consistently elevate Cal Poly’s Men’s and Women's Golf Teams into the top 50 nationally, a focused effort on the short game – chipping, pitching, and putting – is paramount. Enhancing these skills by even 1-2 strokes per player during each round has the potential to unlock significant competitive advantages and propel the Mustangs to national prominence.
